Indian Railways will de-classify 18 trains under the Northern Railways from January 1, 2027 and convert them into regular express trains. Railway sources said that this decision was taken after they were unable to meet the prescribed speed. This will reduce the burden of superfast surcharge on passengers. In addition, new numbers will be allotted to all these trains, including some trains on the South Western Railway. Passengers are advised to check the new numbers and fare details through the official website while travelling from January 1.
