238 Indians languishing in Bangladeshi jails
There are 407 foreigners serving sentences in various prisons in Bangladesh for crimes like drugs and smuggling. According to a report in The Daily Star, 238 of them are Indians, while 168 have not been released after completing their sentences. However, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has refuted these figures. The High Commission official said that only 25 Indians have been confirmed to have completed their sentences, and there are problems in determining the nationality of the prisoners. Prison authorities are concerned about the burden of managing the prisoners.
