New rules on UPI transactions will come into effect from October 15. A 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) will be applicable on business payments exceeding Rs 2,000. However, the Centre has made it clear that these charges should be collected from merchants and not from consumers. However, Congress leaders have alleged that US pressure is behind this decision. The Centre has denied these allegations.
