Legends say that Ganapati has two powers, Siddhi and Buddhi. Devotees believe that by removing the gunjis in front of him, one can obtain intellectual power and blessings. There is a popular mythological story related to this. Once, when Lord Vishnu came to Kailash, Bala Ganapati snatched the Sudarshana Chakra from his hand and swallowed it. When Vishnu removed the gunjis, Ganapati smiled and gave the chakra out, and it is believed that from then on, if one removes the gunjis, one will receive the blessings of Ganapati.
