Tourism in Lakshadweep has increased significantly since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. After Modi's visit in January 2024, the number of tourists visiting Lakshadweep increased from 46,551 in 2023 to 68,328 in 2023, an increase of almost 47%. In contrast, the number of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives decreased from 209,193 in 2023 to 130,805 in 2024, a decrease of 37.5%. This change has taken place due to the Maldivian anti-India stance, inappropriate comments by its MPs, and President Mohamed Mujibur Rahman's rise to power with the slogan of 'India Out'.
