The Iranian Consulate General in Hyderabad responded to this, accusing Rubio of ignoring the Persian influence behind the Taj Mahal and the intelligence of Iranian architects. "His government today threatens to wipe out Iranian civilization and insults other civilizations," the consulate said. The comments came against the backdrop of geopolitical disputes in West Asia.
