New burden on gas consumers.. Price hike?
The central government is considering a proposal to impose a new cess on cooking gas and natural gas consumers. If this proposal comes into effect, it is likely to add about Rs 18 to the price of a domestic LPG cylinder. The center is planning to create a huge strategic fuel reserve to meet future energy supply disruptions in the wake of West Asian tensions. It is reported that a cess of Rs 1.29 per kg may be imposed on LPG and Rs 1.43 per standard cubic meter on natural gas.
