Extreme heat causes deaths of millions of chickens in Telugu states
Chickens are dying in large numbers in Telugu states due to the intense heat. In the last three days, about 15 lakh chickens have died in both Godavari districts, 10 lakh in the joint Rayalaseema, and more than 4 lakh chickens in Uttarandhra. Poultry managers said that chickens, which can normally withstand temperatures up to 35 degrees, are dying of heatstroke due to the heat recorded at 45-48 degrees. Experts suggest giving cold water, electrolytes, vitamin-C, and water mixed with jaggery to the chickens, providing feed in batches, and using white paint and green nets to cool the sheds.
